Seachem Equilibrium 600g

Seachem Equilibrium 600g

Equilibrium is specifically designed to establish the ideal mineral content for the planted aquarium. Equilibrium contains no sodium or chloride (which can be detrimental to a planted aquarium at elevated levels). Equilibrium is ideally suited for use with RO (reverse osmosis) or DI (deionized) water or any mineral deficient water. Equilibrium raises the essential mineral/electrolyte content (General Hardness) of the water to balance with and promote stability of the carbonate hardness. To maintain KH, we recommend Alkaline Buffer.

Unlike competing products, Equilibrium contains NO SODIUM CHLORIDE. Both sodium and chloride are not rapidly depleted elements in a planted aquarium, and, in the case of chloride, can do more harm than good. Competitors? products generally contain primarily sodium chloride (because it is inexpensive), which will raise the electrolyte levels for fish, but can be detrimental to plant growth. In addition, sodium is not a contributing cation to GH levels. Equilibrium contains only calcium, magnesium, and potassium salts, which aid in fish metabolism, but are also highly beneficial to plant growth.

To raise mineral content/general hardness (GH) by 1 meq/L (3 dH), add 16 g (1 tablespoon) for every 80 L (20 gallons*) when setting up an aquarium or when making water changes (add to new water). Equilibrium can be added straight, although for optimum solubility we recommend mixing with ~ 1 L (1 qt.) of water (the resulting mixture will have a white opaque appearance). When this mixture is added to the aquarium it will impart a slight haze that should clear within 15?30 minutes. HINTS: Do not use Equilibrium when replacing evaporated water. This dose is based on DI or RO water; for other water, measure hardness (GH) first, then add according to need. Plant preferences vary, but a general guide is about 1?2 meq/L (3?6 dH) or match the existing or target carbonate hardness (KH), which, ideally, is also about 1?2 meq/L (3?6 dKH).

TOP TEN TIPS TO A HEALTHY AQUARIUM

1. Never clean the filter media in tap water - always use old aquarium water. Cleaning the filter media in tap water can result in the bacteria being killed - but the bacteria is needed to help the break down of the nitrogen cycle. 2. Never over feed your fish. Depending on the size of your fish feed them a maximum of twice a day. Feed just enough for all the food to be consumed in 5 minutes. Any left over feed can result in poor water quality. 3. Always do 20% water change every two weeks with conditioned tap water. Make sure the conditioned tap water has been stood for 24 hours with More on this >

Guide to starting out with a new aquarium

When setting up an aquarium we recommend you have a fish tank with a filter system and not just a bowl. Most fish tanks nowadays come with the filter, pump and heater already in them but if they don't all these products can be bought at The Giant Pet Store. If you just buy the fish tank get a pump that will turn over all the water in the tank at least 7 times an hour. For example a Tetratec Air Pump APS400 can move between 200litres to 400litres of water per hour so it is suitable for aquariums up to a 60 litres. If you are hoping to stock tropical fish in your aquarium and it doesn’t come with a heater you also need to buy one. The Tetratec HT range of heaters are reliable and easy to use and come in various sizes to suit the size of your aquarium....

Guide to starting out with a new biorb

The Reef One Biorb’s and Biube’s are complete aquariums that come with filter, pump and media. They are also some of the easiest aquariums to maintain. All of them, except the 30 litre Biorb, come with a light. You must use the ceramic media that is provided with the Biorbs. The ceramic media provides essential biological filtration. Putting normal gravel or sand in the Biorb can block filtration and can become lodged in the filter cartridge casing...
